Where the Water Was Once explores water bankruptcy: the point at which humanity consumes more fresh water than the Earth can regenerate, permanently draining reserves such as ancient aquifers. Driven by climate change and the accelerating demands of AI, it is a crisis more severe and structural than scarcity alone. Inspired by United Nations warnings that access to clean drinking water could become a source of conflict, the work asks a central question: what happens when a basic human necessity, and a human right, is taken away for the sake of progress?
