Set to "Run Boy Run" by Woodkid, Don't Tell Me Who I Am is a powerful pas de deux created after the COVID lockdown—a time marked by restriction, introspection, and a longing for autonomy. This 3.5 min work is both a personal outcry and a broader commentary on imposed identity: from the constraints placed on artists by casting decisions, to the assumptions others make about who we are.
One of Claire Voss’s only works choreographed on flat shoes, the piece intentionally disrupt from her usual vocabulary. A declaration of self, it challenges the boundaries between expectation and truth, asking: who gets to define who we are?
